I was looking for a way to print labels and linux, so automatically I searched on google and came up with LabelNation, a command line python program. You can use a text file as input, and it has a few pre-defined Avery and Maco labels. There are also options to specify any type of label, you would just have to figure out all the dimensions.

This really wasn't a good solution, I needed something simple. So I loaded up OpenOffice, and it has well, maybe thousands of labels from Avery, Herlitz, Herma, Leitz, and Sigel.

Printing labels with OpenOffice
1. Go to File-> New -> Labels.
2. Under the Brand field, pick the necessary type, mine was Avery Letter Size.
3. Under Type, pick the appropriate number, mine was 5266 File Folder-Assorted.
4. Click New Document.

This brings up a sheet you can then fill out which shows you exact label placement. You can also import data from a database backend.

On a side note, Microsoft word only had a handful of pre-defined templates.
