I needed to upgrade a DLink DI-524 wireless router, but I needed to do it from Linux (because I don't ever want to use a windows box unless I have no choice, and even then that's pushing it). So based on the web page located here:
http://www.dlink.com/products/support.asp?pid=316&sec=0#firmware

Based on the identification procedure in the above web page, I could see this was a Rev C version of the product, so I downloaded the appropriate firmware image. The newer revs don't necessarily have new firmware, but it's always good to check just to be safe.

Before doing this, you should note that updating the firmware image wipes your nvram settings. Unluckily for me, I didn't read the docs, because under the Tools -> System tab you can save your nvram settings locally for reloading after you burn the firmware image, so be forewarned.

So using Firefox, I went to the DI-524 web interfaces, and navigated to the Tools -> Firmware tab, here you can hit the browse button and pick the firmware image you downloaded. Hit the apply button and it takes a little over a minute before the image is uploaded and the router resets itself.

One convenient thing D-Link has on their website is an "emulator" which is basically a web interface showing you what the di-524 interface looks like. Just click the OK button on the login screen to get in.
