I was lucky enough to get a sony vaio pcg-tr3ap for free, except it lacked a hard drive. So I went to the store, bought a regular laptop hard drive, popped it open (which took me half an hour to figure out since sony doesn't like to provide maintenance manuals) and it didn't fit. Searching around it turns out you need a special drive, in fact the same kind of drive that goes in a 4th generation ipod. To purchase this drive from sony costs like $360+, but I got a 20gig off ebay for $50 with shipping. The model is a Toshiba MK2006GAL for anyone needing to replace the drive.

I put feisty fawn on the box, and for wireless, I use WPA with PSK. Using the roaming wireless applet would cause the connection to drop and reconnect frequently, sometimes dropping for good. But setting a static configuration following the instructions here worked fine.

More on getting full screen resolution, as well as audio out of the headphone jack is available at:

The only thing which doesn't seem to work is the builtin motion eye webcam.

I recently got a PCG-TR3AP and replaced a crashed hard drive with a 60gb Ipod 6006gah, worked perfectly. I had to install a fresh copy of XP as I didn't get any software with the laptop and used the licence off the bottom so it kept its own valid licence for updates. I fully u[pdated windows to SP2 and all the updates and drivers off Sony's website. The only problem is no matter what I try I can't get the "multimedia audio controller" to work. I tried the audio driver several times, even logged on as administrator, multiple Windows installs, no luck. Sony couldn't help, they told me to purchase a new sound card, but the parts department doesn't stock them,.. what a clown circle. Yes I could buy a 6.00 usb sound device off Ebay and have it hanging off my laptop, but was hoping someone knew a remedy to getting the multimedia audio controller driver installed. Or if anyone has a set of recovery disks for this model I could trade something for or pay for their disks and postage. Peace and thanks for any possible help guyz.
