quietearth [Celluloid 05.16.07] post apocalyptic movie news
Scheduled for theater release in 2008, here's the synopsis straight from the homepage http://www.mutantchroniclesthemovie.com/.
"Earth's natural resources have been exhausted by mankind and battles rages between the soldiers of four leading Corporations, The Capitol, Bauhaus, Mishima, and Imperial.
Mitch Hunter and Nathan Rooker, battlehardened Capitol soldiers, fight a desperate battle against a Bauhaus advance. When an errant shell destroys an ancient stone seal, they find themselves facing a new enemy: hideous necromutants, with boneblades that grow from their arms. Mitch barley manages to escape. Nathan does not.
The mutants multiply by millions and they destroy all before them. The Corporations' leader, Constantine, is about to abandon the planet and leave countless innocents to their desperate fate, when he is approached by Brother Samuel, leader of the Brotherhood, an ancient monasitc order.
Samuel is keeper of the Chronicles, a book that prophesies both the rise of the Mutants, and the 'Deliverer' that will destroy them. Samuel believes he is that Deliverer destined to journey deep into the earth and destroy the source of the mutant scourge.
He manages to recruit Mitch, along with a handful of like-minded soldiers, Steiner, honor bound Bauhaus officer; sword-wielding Severian; street fighter El Jesus; fearless beauty Duval; stoic warrior Juba.
"Mutant Chronicles" follows Mitch and Samuel's mission to venture into the very heart of the darkness in an attempt to save the planet from the marauding hordes of deathless mutants."
Now for a leaked teaser trailer, this apparently is just to give Hollywood a "feel" for the movie, and does not have the actual actors that will be in the film. I have to say though that the teaser looks incredible!

The screener was leaked on the net... I hate to say it but... the movie was kind of disappointing. The visuals and look of the film were amazing but something was missing. All in all its a good movie and nice PA piece but you never really connect with the characters or care what happens to them. Sorry Quiet Earth, I hope your not disappointed when you see it.

did you know that the managing editor of io9.com is suing the production company for making Mutant Chronicles, which she considers one of the worst sci-fi movies ever made?
It's that bad.
it won't go to court, of course. But she just wanted it on the public record.
Think about it. Not even the producers for Battlefield Earth got sued.

The film was great.
The film is not pretentious, the dialog wasn't over the top, it sported a gritty industrial feel, the action had a mix of guns and swords, and the effects weren't overplayed and it was refreshing to see old school effects and not CGI everywhere.
All the actors and actresses were great; they were excellent in delivering their roles. The characters they play are tough soldier and warrior type characters; so don’t expect that much character development, now there is some but not on a level of a dramatic War film. Such things like character development are not always needed in some films. With the way that world is and the way the characters are… what kind of character development would there really be????
People expect too much from this films these days. Now I wouldn’t call this film a masterpiece but it’s not a terrible film either. One should not expect this film to be on a film level of “Citizen Kane”, “Casablanca”, “Gone with the Wind”, “Saving Privet Ryan” or with lines and dialog like that of “Shakespeare” because it’s not trying to be like those type of films. Now I’m not putting the movie down in anyway, I liked it of course, but like I said it’s just a Sci-Fi/Horror/Action B-movie and that’s what it is, that’s what the filmmakers and the actors went for. They’re not going for Academy awards with effects and acting. If you want to enjoy this film… then try to enjoy it for what it is… and don’t hate it for what it’s not trying to be.
The film people saw on the web was an unfinished film.
The "managing editor of io9.com" is just one of many nut cases on the web.
People on this web site shouldn't be saying what's bad and what isn't.... this site is loaded with terrible films.

Got to say, I liked it. Acting was good. The storyline was mostly faithful to the game, and the soldiers all had good motivations and actions going for them. You get to watch them do this suicide mission and fall one by one. The ending was just a tad weak, but still works. I actually enjoy this sucker.

In a word, diabolical. Bad CGI, unbelivably bad story, bad directing and bad acting. Apart from Pertwee who played the same charecter from any other flick you've seen him in. Dont bother, it almost made my mind bleed.
