quietearth [Celluloid 06.11.07] post apocalyptic movie news
Wow, we're really on a roll! So many upcoming movies, and lots of them from major studios. I know this is a bit late, but WB has bought the rights to Terry Brooks fantasy series "Shannara" which apparently has a heavy Tolkien influence. How much longer can we keep this pace up? I feel like one day the post apocalyptic movie well will just dry up...
The story is set in a post apocalyptic world filled with humans, elves, trolls, etc.. which fight with magic and technology against the backdrop of the skeletal remains of skycrapers and subways. Sounds interesting, although I have to say I'm not a real fan of fantasy.

The shannara series is post apocalyptic, but not blatantly until later on. The first few books don't do anything but vaguely hint about an apocalypse, and the story and setting are much more fantasy than sci-fi.

actually there is some controversy over if the original trilogy is set in a post apocalyptic time frame, however the heritage series (after original 3 shannara books) most certainly is.

There is no controversy. Sword is set in the future after "The great wars". It was apocalyptic for present civilization. The only controversy is whether or not it was a nuclear apocalypse. Why in god's this site turns up for the first few hits on "Shannara movie"- I'm bewildered. Whoever wrote this article is so blatantly ignorant.. Yech. Choke.

thats not true.......... the only TRUE post apocalyptic society for shannara is the genesis series... i've read every single one..... none of them speak of an apocalypse.

I could be wrong, but since I just finished reading "The Gypsy Morph" The Shannara seris is set in a post apocalyptic world. Whne it talks of "The great wars in the Sword, Elfstone etc it was talking about the events that occuried in The Genesis of Shannra Trilogy! But the backdrop for that seris starts out in the Word/Void seris which begins with "Running with the Demon".

Terry Brooks has now set about writing the books about the great wars the lead up to the Genesis of Shannara with the Knights of the Word who first appear in the 'Word & Void' series leading & protecting the people of the world. Terry developes the Great wars in 'Armageddon's Children' into the next book called 'Gennisis of Shannara - The Elves of Cintra' where the Elfstones get introduced the onto 'The Gypsy Morph'. Terry has said that there will be a further 9 books linking the 'Word & Void' series.
