I really don't know what to classify this as, but first off let me say that J.G. Ballard is hands down my favorite author. He is no stranger to post apocalyptic fiction, having written The Drought and The Drowned World, and many many top notch sci-fi short stories like Chronopolis. High Rise is no exception, it's about "a modern tower block running out of control. The tower's affluent tenants are bent on an orgy of destruction; cocktail parties degenerate into marauding attacks on 'enemy floors' and the once luxurious amenities become an arena for technological mayhem. The rule of law gives way to the rule of the jungle as life crumbles around them."

And it's a lot better then it sounds. I have to say I'm very very excited to see this. Now guess who's doing the screenplay adaption and directing? None other then Vincenzo Natali of Cube fame! I can't wait! I don't think they could have found a better person to implement such a claustrophobic story! IMDB shows this as being in production with a release date of sometime in 2008, but sorry, no further info.
