This is a biographical drama based on the life of Neal Cassady, made famous by his character Dean Moriarty in Kerouac's "On the Road". Currently running the festival circuit, it's written and directed by Noah Buschel and adapted from his award winning play of the same name. (Oddly enough Buschel was ordained as a Zen priest.) The movie stars Tate Donavan as Neal Cassady and Glenn Fitzgerald as Jack Kerouac.

Now I have to say I'm officially wary, putting something in film which is part of the American mythos tends to give said mythos form, whereas this should be part of our collective conscious, conditionally subjective on our own exploration. We all know the beats, and I think the only film that did any of them justice was Cronenberg's Naked Lunch.

"How do you live up to being Dean Moriarty? Neal Cassady follows the tumultuous life of the Cassady as he goes from his trip with Jack Kerouac on the road to literary stardom, a friendship with Ken Kesey and membership in the Merry Pranksters, toward a downward spiral into drugs and self loathing. Brilliantly acted by Donovan, Fitzgerald, and Bauer the film wonderfully evokes life in 50s and 60s America and the downfall of a uniqley American figure."
