Well folks, it's that time again.. DVD's are dropping tomorrow, and we've got quite a few this week, both out of agentorange's and my pick lists. I'm going to to start off with one of my personal favorites which I reviewed last year, and that's the zombie thriller Automaton Transfusion, and while it's a great film, be warned, the ending will piss you off. Next up we have Albert Pyun's horror western Left For Dead shot entirely in Argentina. Continuing on we have medical anesthetic thriller (with Jessica Alba) Awake, then an apocalyptic 2 pack from Echo Bridge containing 10.5 Apocalypse & Category 7. Next is one of our all time favorites The Quiet Earth as part of Anchor Bay's cult fiction series. Not to be outdone, they are also releasing David Bowie's The Man Who Fell To Earth which should be getting a remake soon, and I hope someone will eventually make Walter Tevis's best book, "Mockingbird" into a film. We have trailers, synopsis, and amazon links following.
Automaton Transfusion
Our review
Purchase at Amazon
Government experiments to resurrect the dead and transform them into super soldiers go horribly wrong, leaving a rampaging horde of the zombified guinea pigs to wreak havoc on a small town. Fortunately, three resourceful high school students demonstrate a felicity for putting the ferocious flesh eaters out of their misery.
Left For Dead
Purchase at Amazon
The west goes gruesome in this gunslinging terror ride into the town of Amnesty. The small town is a shattered shell, empty of all life except Mobius, a vengeful killer who cuts down anyone unfortunate enough to cross his path. But Clem is coming to town - and she and her posse are not going to go quietly...
Awake
Purchase at Amazon
AWAKE is a sexy, psychological thriller about a common occurrence called "anesthetic awareness" a horrifying phenomenon wherein a patient’s failed anesthesia leaves him fully conscious but physically paralyzed during surgery. The patient’s charming new wife is forced to struggle with her own demons as a terrifying drama unfolds around the couple.
10.5 Apocalypse & Category 7
Purchase at Amazon
10.5: Apocalypse: After a massive 10.5 quake tears apart the West Coast, triggering an unrelenting series of natural disasters, Seismologist Samantha Hill uncovers an even greater threat: an expanding fault line thats slicing toward the countrys two largest nuclear reactorsif a meltdown occurs, millions will die. Category 7: The End of the World: As the nation faces a deadly Category 6 storm, the government falls under terrorist attack. Now, it's not only man against nature, but man against man as an intensified Category 7 approaches.
The Quiet Earth (cult fiction edition)
Purchase at Amazon
As you can probably guess, this is one of our favorites around here. At exactly 6:12 am, government research scientist Zac Hobson (a powerhouse performance by Bruno Lawrence of SMASH PALACE and UTU) awakens to discover that he may be the last man on earth: homes, highways and entire cities are deserted. Empty planes have fallen from the sky. Every living thing has disappeared.
The Man Who Fell to Earth (cult fiction edition)
Purchase at Amazon
Thomas Jerome Newton is a humanoid alien who comes to Earth to get water for his dying planet. He starts a high technology company to get the billions of dollars he needs to build a return spacecraft, and meets Mary-Lou, a girl who falls in love with him. He does not count on the greed and ruthlessness of business here on Earth, however.
