Being a massive fan of John Wyndham's Day of the Triffids, a book which also details a world that turns to chaos when 90% of its population is inflicted by sudden blindness, I must say I've been really looking forward to learning more about this new film by Fernando Meirelles. Based on the smash novel by Jose Saramago, the apocalyptic film stars Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Gael García Bernal, Alice Braga, Sandra Oh and Danny Glover. Synopsis and first look teaser after the break.

Synopsis: "A doctor's wife becomes the only person with the ability to see in a town where everyone is struck with a mysterious case of sudden blindness. She feigns illness in order to take care of her husband as her surrounding community breaks down into chaos and disorder. Based on a novel by Nobel Prize winner Jose Saramago."

Special thanks to rowthree for the heads up.

We've got a pretty sharp review of BLINDNESS (well, the rough cut of the film anyway:
