It's true! After a ton of speculation about whether or not one of my favorite PKD novels would be coming to the big screen, Variety is now reporting that European company Celluloid Dreams has optioned the property and will be co-producing the feature with Dick's daughter's Electric Shepherd Productions. Originally published in 1969, Ubik tells the story of a future world that begins to experience a strange metaphysical phenomenon that begins to shift time backwards until the world resembles America of the 1930's. As the main character's try to figure out what's going on, while trying not to die, they begin to notice a mysterious product called Ubik, which is advertised in every time period they enter. As a classic piece of fast paced PKD fiction I can't say I'm surprised it's been picked up but in the wake of some pretty half baked Dick films recently ("Next" anyone?) I hope this one gets the royal treatment. Either way I can't wait to learn more.

I'm glad that someone (his daughter) is looking out for his works now that he's gone, instead of some suited douchebag just looking for another yacht payment.
