Five years in the works, the psychadelic alternative rock band's feature length film Christmas on Mars is finally premiering tonight at the Sasquatch Film Festival. The film is written and directed by band frontman Wayne Coyne and features all of the band plus plenty of associates. "Major Syrtis goes insane as he tries to improve morale in an abandoned colony on Mars through a Christmas pageant, where the first colonist baby will be born." Coyne elaborated to Rolling Stone that "It's sometime in the future, Mars has been sort of conquered and there's a space station on it but the space program has gone into decline and these people are kind of stuck up there. They're in the process of converting the spaceships that took them there into a place to live in and that process doesn't go too smoothly. The whole thing ends up very dilapidated, very un-futuristic, un-'2001'. There's an element of confidence among the scientists, but the overall view is that things seem kind of doomed." There will be a dvd release at some point, but the bands current plan is to screen the film at many concert venues with in-depth immersion featuring sound, lights and the whole deal. We have a trailer after the break, and while some of the acting and footage is kind of raw, I can see some serious cult potential here folks so check it out!
