French director Louis Leterrier, who is currently sitting at the top of the box office heap with The Incredible Hulk, wants to direct Strays next. An eco action thriller written by Michael Ross, strays is about a group of young consultants on a business trip to Russia who mysteriously wake up in an abandoned and radioactive city and must fight to survive the deadly obstacles in between them and safety. To me that sort of sounds like a post-apocalyptic Saw or Battle Royale or something and I have to say I'm intrigued. I can't speak for The Hulk (as it looked way too much like a horrendous pile of garbage for me to bring myself to go see it) but Leterrier has proven his action chops with the over-the-top, yet thoroughly enjoyable, Transporter 2 so if he's got PA action on his mind then count me in. More after the break.
UPDATE #1
Alright so there has been some Strays plot updates recently, albeit from a dubious source, that our pal Avery found over at a AINC. They don't conflict with what we've already posted but they do add an interesting element. This is what they say they've learned:
"The Russians have been having problems in and around Moscow with hyper-intelligent feral dogs that the police believe are responsible for missing homeless people. These dogs are intelligent enough to catch rides on trolleys and subway trains to go to specific destinations. More would be known about them, but they are aware that they are being studied and they go out of their way to conceal their activities."
Are these feral dogs the dangers that must be faced by the "young consultants?" We'll keep you posted as this interesting film develops.
UPDATE#2
So now everyone's a-buzz about Strays and what the heck to expect from the plot. AICN once again got what looks to be the final scoop and while it sounds less post-apocalyptic, it still sounds apocalyptic. Here's the revised plot outline:
"There is a group of young "consultants", but these "consultants" are brilliant HUMANS and have been trained to investigate "unusual" findings for the military (which one I won't say yet). They are "trackers", the "dogs" for the military's special interests unit.
The plot revolves around this group of young men and women investigating a radioactive anomaly in Russia, and they disappear. They disappear for years, then begin resurfacing in areas around the world with information both powerful and deadly.
The operation becomes to locate all of the military's "strays" (hence the title), to unravel the mystery of their disappearances. But when they begin dying of an unusual malady, the mystery truly begins to unfold."
