We so often think of Philip K Dick's work in terms of big blockbusters like Minority Report and Total Recall that we forget that many of his books are about ideas rather than spectacle and actually lend themselves really well to a smaller, more intimate style of indie filmmaking. We saw a great example of this with Linklater's A Scanner Darkly and I predict we'll see it again when first time director John Alan Simon's version of Radio Free Ablemuth finally makes it to theater screens (or on DVD). When we reported on the production way back in November, there were a few things we still didn't know that we now do thanks to a website that has appeared for the film... like yes, Alanis Morissette is in it. Hopefully its appearance means that the film is nearing release but, unfortunately, there isn't any indication of distribution or a release date yet. more on the production and link to website after the break.

The film finished production at the end of October and has been cut. The film has not yet been picked up by a distributor but when it is, Simon predicts both a US and overseas theatrical release.

Thanks for your interest and support for Radio Free Albemuth. The dramatic portion of the movie has been cut but the special effects for the vision sequences are not finished. This is a slow process on a small effects budget. Also much other typical post-production work to do with sound, music, etc. The movie has not yet been shown to any distributors. That process will start hopefully by the end of September. I will keep you all posted.

So excited to hear that work on RFA is progressing. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Not sure if this is really appropriate to post here, but it seems like Philip K. Dick's ex wife has fallen on hard times http://www.republibot.com/content/tessa-****-could-use-your-help
