This little bit of amazing news actually dropped over on Dread Central yesterday, but of course I was too busy basking in the afterglow of being recently wed to actually see it in time (uh-oh, being married is already changing me!). Why do I think it is such good news you ask? Well, there are a few films floating around out there that I wish I could see for the first time all over again. I'm sure you've all got films that in one way or another have shaped your tastes in cinema. Films that surprised the hell out of you with either their thematic depth, vision, or sheer adrenaline. Well, Ryuhei Kitamura's insane Yakuza/Samurai/zombie flick Versus is one of those films for me. Despite it being ultra-low budget, it managed to set a very high standard for how far I now expect other directors to be able and willing to go in their quest to get noticed in a sea of indie flicks and genre movie overload. So having Kitamura remake his own flick in America with even more resources is almost like getting a chance to see it again for the first time (if I may be so bold as to quote a terrible tagline) and I for one am all for it. He's even quoted as saying "the US version will be insane," which means, it's gonna be completely bonkers. Can't wait to hear more about this. For your enjoyment, you can find an entire fight scene from the film after the break.
