While I'm not sure if this is the first rendition of The Raven that's animated, I'll bet it's the first one that's out of Argentina. It's directed by Nicanor Loreti and Mariano Cattaneo and the narration is by Billy Drago. While I can't place Drago to a single film I've seen, this is one of those creep looking dudes whose name we don't know but we'll recognize on sight. “We’re focusing on the psychological side of the tale,” Cattaneo told Fangoria, “concentrating on the terror the narrator feels. This is the story of the main character’s lost love, Lenore, and the guilt he feels for losing her, which appears as the raven. The poem never tells us what happened with her, and we want to concentrate on that, on the fact that she might have been murdered and wants to come back. Our main influences for the design and atmosphere of it are, first of all, German expressionist films, but there will also be homages to filmmakers we love, like Sam Raimi, George A. Romero, Tim Burton, Robert Rodriguez, John Carpenter and even Stephen King.” Check out the teaser after the break.
