We got some good news from the The Hollywood Reporter this morning. I guess New Line founders Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne are looking to re-create the success they had with "that other unfilmable book series," The Lord of the Rings, and tackle Issac Asimov's expansive and truly epic foundation series. If this seems like old news to some of you (and indeed I remember reading something about this is Starlog years ago) that's because Foundation has actually been in development at Fox for quite a while under the watchful eye of producer Vince Gerardis (who also produced Jumper). Well, now Warner Bros. have picked up the property and are willing to handle marketing and distributing for Unique Features who recently announced a partnership deal with them. For those of you who haven't read Foundation yet, it tells the story of a group of scientists (or Psychohistorians) who seek to preserve knowledge as the civilizations around them begin to regress. Foundation has influenced a wide range of scifi productions from Dune to George Lucas' Star Wars.

Works of genius. I'd like to see it on big screen, but I think it could be tough to adapt, though lots of material.
