Now that Jorge Olguín's Chilean entry into the zombie genre, Solos, is finally out and tearing up the festival circuit, we're all eagerly awaiting a viewing of our own. But alas, it sounds like it may be a while yet. Until then, let's revel in the promise of Olguin's next flick called Call of the Sea. A horror fantasy based on a legend about a ghost ship that navigates the cold waters of a mysterious Chilean island, Call of the Sea centers on a marine biologist (Varela) who discovers that many of the legends are related to her family's past are true, and that on this mysterious Island, the lines between myth and reality are blurred. First news of Call of the Sea actually dropped back in 2006 when the Hollywood Reporter reported that Guillermo del Toro had signed on to executive produce the shocker. But, besides a crummy "making of" teaser that shows little, and a limited official website, not much has has arisen on the feature for quite some time. We have discovered that it is currently in post however, so a proper teaser probably isn't too far behind. We also know that the film will "feature elements of magic and fantasy using state-of-the-art digital CGI effects, models and special effects makeup." With any luck it'll be as interesting and dark as Pan's Labyrinth. But we'll keep you posted. Making of video and links after the break.
