From the lads over at BD comes word of a new film under development by Warner Bros called The Rapture. While it sounds promising, it's hard not to notice the film's pre-fab cookie cutter story setup (read: everything from Knowing to The Reaping to Rosemary's Baby). The film is about a damaged young girl in therapy who finds that when she receives shock treatment, she begins to have visions of coming environmental disasters. Eventually, her therapist, a woman in a wheelchair, comes to believe that her patient may be foretelling the end of the world! All while her detractors begin to raise the possibility that the young girl is in fact causing these disasters herself. However, since there wasn't much more on the title that's due in 2011, I thought I'd do a little digging. It turns out that The Rapture is actually based on a book by British novelist Liz Jensen, whose amazing The Ninth Life of Louis Drax is also under development by Mirage Enterprises and Miramax. But what book? Her currently available repertoire does not include a novel with this plot, so is it a yet unreleased book? We'll certainly be back with more info as it develops.
