Synapse is putting out a trifecta of Minoru Kawasaki titles on November 18th including: Executive Koala, The Rug Cop, and disaster spoof movie The World Sinks Except Japan. Trailers, pre-order links, and synopsis for all after the break.
Executive Koala
Pre-order at Amazon
Tamura works in the offices of a Japanese pickle distribution company. He is conscientious, well liked in the office and has a loving girlfriend Yoko. He is a six foot tall koala bear. One day Yoko his girlfriend turns up dead and Tamura is the chief suspect and so sets out to prove his innocence. He is hampered by gaps in his memory, flashbacks of spousal abuse and the fact that his first wife dissappeared. As any intelligent Koala would he enlists the help of his boss (a white rabbit) and a bartender (frog) to help him discover the truth. Can he prove his innocence? Can he help his company pull off a pickle deal? And what does his bartender and his boss know about the two-hundred year old terrifying secret behind the EXECUTIVE KOALA?
The Rug Cop
Pre-order at Amazon
In the film, chrome-domed officer Genda (Fuyuki Moto) transfers to a new precinct just as a group of radical terrorists hijack a shipment of uranium. When a DVD arrives at the station demanding five billion yen in exchange for the lives of the entire population of Tokyo, his only choice is to solve the case by working closely with the talents of his bizarre police colleagues -- Tonko, the best tea server in Japan, champion eater Fatty, speedy weightlifter Shorty, ladies' man Gigolo, joke-cracking Gagster, and Big Willie, who lives up to his name when sexually aroused, brandishing a light saber-like phallus that comes in handy during many dicey situations. When the idiosyncratic police task force finally tracks down the bumbling criminals and their makeshift bomb, however, Genda is shocked to discover that the criminal conspiracy is tied to someone from his past.
The World Sinks Except Japan
Pre-order at Amazon
What would happen if all the continents in the world sank, leaving only Japan above water? With its tongue stuck firmly in its cheek that's exactly what this film explores. Now the only superpower in the world, Japan is able to dictate the law. English as the global language? Not any more. Whale meat back on the menu? You bet. This is a world where 12.5 million non-Japanese refugees are homeless and Schwarzenegger is reduced to performing tricks in bars for money. This hilarious satire pokes fun at global superpowers, western traditions and foreign immigrants. And remember, it could happen!
