If you can believe it, director Yang Shupeng was originally a fireman and taught himself how to make movies in his spare time. I suppose we're all something else before we become what we are now, but I just think that's awesome. Anyway, The Robbers is Shupeng's homage to Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai as well as his sophomore film (having already hit box office pay dirt with The Cold Flame). It is set during the Tang Dynasty and tells the story of two robbers' adventures in a seemingly peaceful Bitter Bamboo Village, where they encounter a beautiful woman, a group of soldiers and a village head scheming to kill the duo. Hu Jun will play the arrow-shooting Xue Shisan and Jiang Wu will portray swordsman Chen Liu. The action packed NSFW trailer is after the break so be sure to check it out.
