Last week we re-printed some early audience reactions to a test screening of John Hillcoats's upcoming adaptation of The Road. The comments were mostly from the film's IMDB and CHUD forums. One commenter named "Blaine the Mono" made reference to there being a voiceover which he believed was "the temp dialogue we were warned about." Since reprinting his comments however, Mr. Mono has been in touch to clarify. Apparently the voiceover he was referring to was not a traditional voiceover meant to provide additional narration, but rather temporary dialog voiced by another actor and laid over top of Viggo's performance.
The more I hear about this test screening the more it sounds like the film was very rough and word is that, since last week, a few more favorable reactions to the screening ( like this one from Joblo) have emerged online which, to this writer, is good news. Obviously we here at Quiet Earth want this film to be both well done and well received by the public. The best thing that could happen is The Road is so powerful that it spurs on a post-apocalyptic epoch of sorts that makes studios scramble to produce all the PA scripts they might have on the back burner. Thanks for being in touch Blaine.
