Wow, that was quick. I figured it'd be another year before we saw this release with Weinstein's track record, so yes, the much sought after horror film Martyrs (review) is finally coming out on DVD, and in case you're wondering, yes I've seen it, and yes, it's freaking awesome.

"France. A night at the beginning of the 1970s. Lucie, a little girl missing for over a year, is discovered wandering by the side of a country road. Near catatonic, she can say nothing about what has happened to her. The cops quickly find the place in which she's been incarcerated - a disused slaughterhouse. Every indication is that she never once left the empty, freezing room in which she was imprisoned. Filthy, starving, dehydrated, the child's body nonetheless bears no traces of sexual abuse - this was no pedophile abduction, but something far stranger. What happened in that icy room? And how did Lucie escape?"

We have the trailer after the break, and you can pre-order it here.

I mightily disagree on Martyrs which is a technically impressive but patently silly little film. The apex of torture porn - is it sad that I found myself yawning and bored as much as anything else with this film? The ending is laughably over-the-top which undercuts the aimed for intensity throughout the rest of the film.

I'll fully acknowlege that this one tends to split the genre-fans right down the middle, 50% like it, 50% dislike it. I'm in the latter category.

user icon You're definitely right on the split of genre fans, but I have to disagree.. even after seeing it with all the hoopla (which I hate) I think this was still a well written little film, and the whole spiritual story was great.

Loved Frontiers, Inside, Them, Switchblade Romance...In fact most horrors that come out of France are superb to say the least (perhaps US directors should learn how to shock audiences by taking a few tips).
Can't wait for this to come out...Still unsure when it will be though, as different websites give different dates. Hoping that it will be later this month.
