AFM is always my favorite time of the film reporting year. There's always so much information about cool genre movies flying at you from every direction that it's literally a full time job just keeping up with what's going on. It's for that reason that we here at QE decided to hold off on a lot of our favorite news and make one big giant mega post with all the stuff that had us talking behind the scenes.

To avoid cluttering up the homepage I've decided to bury all the images and information after the break so click through and feast on the many goodies beyond.




I've chosen to start with Neuromancer not for the quality of the news but for how high the film currently ranks on my most anticipated. And not because I have any real fondness for Hayden Christensen or James Kahn, but just because it's been way too long since we've seen any good, hard edged cyberpunk. This piece of concept art was seen floating around AFM by commingsoon



Another film that seems to have everyone in a tizzy (including us) is The Pack, an upcoming French thriller from the producers of INSIDE. The boys at BD were kind enough to share a look at some early concept art (which tells us that apparently the "new Sam Raimi is French") but first, here's the synopsis:

In the middle of a snowy no man’s land, Charlotte picks up Max, a hitchhiker; they stop in a truck-stop restaurant, and when Max doesn’t come back from the bathroom, Charlotte starts looking for him in vain. She decides to return during the night but gets kidnapped by the bartender, La Spack, who turns out to be Max’s mother and needs to feed her kids, « The pack », a bunch of blood lusting ghouls.







In business news, Adam Mason's Blood River was a hit with distributors. Sales for the film went to Spentzos Films for Greece, Carisma Films for Poland, MIG Film for Germany, New Primedia for South Africa and VFR, Ltd. for Russia while Epic Pictures is the international distributor of the film. Why do we love Adam Mason? Because one of his upcoming projects may be of the post-apocalyptic persuasion called Luna.

Also, Oren Peli's Paranormal Activity as been sold to Icon for the UK, Australia and New Zealand, Metropolitan for France, Svensk for Scandinavia and RCV for Benelux, with deals closed with Korea Screen in South Korea, Village Roadshow in Greece, Golden Village in Singapore and Eco Films in Portugal.[via. STYD brought us our first look at Dren from Vincenzo Natalie's Splice. Splice is coming out sometime in 2009 and is being produced by Guillermo del Toro. Here's what it's about:

Elsa and Clive are two young rebellious scientists who defy legal and ethical boundaries and forge ahead with a dangerous experiment: splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism. Named Dren, the creature rapidly develops from a deformed female infant into a beautiful but dangerous winged human-chimera, who forges a bond with both of her creators - only to have that bond turn deadly.

On the post-apocalyptic front, an indie flick called Stonehenge Apocalypse is in pre-production. Word is it doesn't even have a director yet and it sounds like a straight up B-movie, but we'll be keeping an eye on it anyway. You can see a little piece of artwork for it here.

Another film that has our interest sufficiently peaked is Growth, a "an action packed psychological sci-fi thriller, filled with special effects that will blow your mind every killer step of the way… " The film stars Alexi Wasser, Richard Riehle, Brian Krause, Robert Culp, Chris Shand and Nora Kirkpatrick and looks to take its inspiration from Slither. Here's a detailed synopsis via DB:

In 1989, on a quiet vacation island off the coast of picturesque New England, a groundbreaking experiment is underway. Scientists, working with the island population, have successfully unlocked the gateway to advancing human evolution. Using a parasite, they have been able to amplify the vision, hearing, speed, strength and intellect of the human subject, promising to usher in a new age for mankind…

Until disaster strikes.

Now, twenty years later, JAMIE (Mircea Monroe, TEKKEN), who escaped the island catastrophe as a child, returns with her boyfriend MARCO (Brian Krause, TV’s CHARMED), step-brother JUSTIN (Chris Shand, RETURN TO SLEEPAWAY CAMP) and party girl best friend KRISTIN (Nora Kirkpatrick) to sell the property recently inherited from her great uncle. Once there, the group uncovers the key to Jamie's disturbing past, and the horrifying secrets hidden by Larkin (Richard Riehle, HATCHET) and the other town elders for over two decades.

The early setbacks did not deter the locals from pursuing their research, and now Jamie and the group must fight to escape an island overrun with deadly parasites that turn you super human before turning you super insane!



Last but not least, a new piece of promotional art emerged for Wesley Snipes' upcoming horror/western Gallowalker.
