Not sure how I missed this but British director Christopher Smith (probably best known for his awesome horror/comedy Severance) is in pre-production on an apocalyptic film based in the middle ages called Black Death. Not much has been released on the film but we've managed to track down some sales art, a full synopsis, and we know that Sean Bean and Rupert Friend are confirmed to star.

Medieval England has fallen under the shadow of the Black Death. In this apocalyptic world, filled with fear and superstition, a young monk called Osmund is charged in leading a fearsome knight, Ulric and his group of mercenaries to a remote marsh. Their quest is to hunt down a necromancer - someone able to bring the dead back to life. Torn between his love of God and the love of a young woman, Osmund discovers the necromancer, a mysterious beauty called Langiva. After Langiva reveals her Satanic identity and offers Osmund his hearts desire, the horror of his real journey begins.

Of course Smith is in the final stages of post on his upcoming horror film Triangle right now so it may be a while till we see footage from this cool sounding flick. You can check out another piece of sales art after the break.
