Even though Toby Wilkins' recent horror film Splinter didn't make any QE top 2008 lists, I would say it was easily one of the best surprises of the past year. A creature feature that seemed to come out of nowhere and land right at center stage, it may not have changed the face of cinema (a feeling that was put forth by quietearth's review) but it certainly exceeded my expectations with great acting, FX, and one of the most original creature designs I've seen in a while.

Well good news for those of you who missed it's criminally short theatrical run, Splinter will be broadcast on the SCIFI channel on Saturday, February 14 at 9 p.m. according to Fangoria. The film is certainly worth the time it takes to program your TiVo so get on it.

For those of you looking for a more hi-def experience, the DVD is set to drop in the Spring and you can pre order it here .
