According to the Hollywood Reporter, NBC has just ordered a new series pilot by Heroes writer/producer Jesse Alexander. The show, called Day One, will "chronicle the aftermath of a global event that devastates the world's infrastructures when a small band of survivors strive to rebuild society and unravel the mysteries of why the event took place and what the future has in store."

I wish we had more to share about what the "global event" is but alas we don't know if it's nuclear war, plague, total economic destruction, or another ice age. I'm intrigued though. Of the course the name brings back memories of ABC's The Day After which has yet to be rivaled in terms of realism on American TV. This, plus the news that ABC wants a pilot for V makes me hopeful for some decent genre shows next year.

Hey is that Big Ben there? I'm such a sucker for any film/book/poem that destroys London!

I doubt it'll be a nuclear apocalypse - far too dark for TV.

Er... nuclear apocalypse is the premise for the 1.5 season show Jericho, isn't it.
