agentorange [Celluloid 04.02.09] movie trailer news horror

Came across this trailer when I was creeping on Dread Central this morning. I remember some stills surfaced for it a couple of weeks back but they looked really glossy and not at all like the trailer, which is actually really Blair Witch-y. I wasn't impressed then, but now I may keep this new fond-footage flick on my radar.

It’s Miriam’s 21st Birthday. As a birthday gift, Miriam’s aunt Gail has decided to lend Miriam her beautiful country house for an entire weekend. It’s a four bedroom house surrounded by breathtaking mountains and miles and miles of woods. Miriam invites her young college friends Cassy, Mark, Tanya and Leo to join her at the country house for what looks to be the most amazing weekend ever. Of course they all jump at the chance to spend a free weekend in the country, in the middle of nowhere.

Miriam’s friends are totally in the mood for a big time party weekend. They’re also anxious to escape the dark and gloomy concrete jungle known as Manhattan. Miriam, Cassy and Tanya bring the food. Mark brings the beer and Leo, the aspiring filmmaker, brings his new video camera. Leo hopes to produce a short movie by documenting every amazing moment of this weekend getaway. Unfortunately, what Leo ends up capturing on camera is not a weekend of peace and tranquility, but a nightmarish descent into pure terror.

You can check out the trailer after the break. It's actually sort of confusing because sometimes you're hearing audio ontop of footage taken from another camera. I'm assuming that the killer has a camera and the kids have a camera and someone found both and edited them together.

I'm always down for a "found footage" convention in horror. It just amps up the realism to me. I can get freaked out by surveillance cameras, home video footage, etc - but large budget fright flicks just don't get to me at all anymore. They can make me squirm, but they can't keep me up at night.
Looking forward to this AND Paranormal Activity. sigh...someone distribute PAct already, damn!

Agree, although the style is not new and every movie like this reeks from obvious rip offs. But the result of such style can be so intriguing and realistic, I am ready to ignore the non-original parts.

truly - the ONLY thing that will revive the horror genre into being literally SCARY to large numbers of people are : there will have to be some sort of constructed media event that blurs the line between fiction and reality. Something akin to the O. Wells War of the Worlds - but done through synchronized media channels.
Because sadly, right now, the scariest films these days are documentaries.

sonaboy is right. mass-conspiracy (for lack of a better term) is the only thing that will truly scare people.

unless someone can find a way to do something no one else has done. the descent is what did it for me.

but originality is getting harder and harder to come by as time progresses.
