To continue our trend at bringing you tiny posters for cool projects, we present you with the first look at the poster for Richard Kelly's The Box. Based on the short story "Button, Button" by legendary screenwriter and novelist Richard Matheson ("Duel," "I am Legend"), the story was also the subject of a great (yet a bit campy) New Twilight Zone Episode called the same thing.

Norma Lewis and James Marsden and Arthur Lewis are a suburban couple with a young child who receive a simple wooden box as a gift, which bears fatal and irrevocable consequences. A mysterious stranger delivers the message that the box promises to bestow upon its owner $1 million with the press of a button. But, pressing this button will simultaneously cause the death of another human being somewhere in the world…someone they don't know. With just 24 hours to have the box in their possession, Norma and Arthur find themselves in the cross-hairs of a startling moral dilemma and must face the true nature of their humanity.

Kelly recently updated his myspace blog with news that Warner Brothers is releasing The Box on October 30, 2009. I'm really looking forward to this one. And yes, I really liked Southland Tales despite being completely confused for most of it. As soon as we track down a larger poster we'll update this post.

[Note: Updated with better poster, yippee!]

It strangely reminds me of the poster for No Country for Old Men.

Three's a crowd.

It was a Twilight Zone ep. with Mare Winingham the first time around! I just saw it rerun on CHILLER. Hey Richard Kelly, stop ripping people off! I guess you get basic Directv just like I do!

I'm surprised only Cameron Diaz's name is up in lights with no mention of James Marsden (aka Cyclops in X-Men) on the poster. It's not like he's a lead character or anything!

Im getting a real Alfred Hitchcock vibe from this poster. I think that this could be really good for Richard Kelly, if this film is really good and the critics like it, he could very well take over the monopoly M. Night has had on the dramatic thriller genre.

how is Richard Kelly "ripping people off" when the press release makes it clear that this movie is based on an original story from Richard Matheson?
