Cerebral scifi fans take note; Marc Caro's Dante 01 (review here) finally gets a release from Dimension Extreme this week! When I first saw the film I immediately fell in love with its claustrophobic oddness, but for those of you who are easily offended by obtuse 2001 style incomprehensibility I recommend maybe Netflixing it before deciding on a purchase.
Then of course we've also got the much ruminated upon offshoot of the recently concluded Battlestar Galactica series, Caprica out this week. Regardless of everyone's belief that this will be a dull and short lived spin-off, I'm still interested to see the Adamas' backstory and the birth of A.I. on the soon-to-be destroyed planet.
We've also got a few titles on the horror front this week. The biggest for horror buffs may be Anchor Bay's Hellraiser boxed set. Considering it's only the first two films with no added extras I'm not buying it but the box is crazy cool. Then we've got J.T. Petty's The Burrowers (review here) which I've heard is a little less like Tremors meets The searchers than it's being marketed as but I'm still gonna check it out as I love westerns and horror so it's like a marriage made in cinematic heaven.
The next films you might want to check out are a little more obscure. Robert Hall's slasher Laid to Rest, which stars the beautiful Lena Headey, drops. Even though it looks incredibly formulaic there's been a lot of buzz surrounding it lately. Then there's a film from 2006 called Sam's Lake which is billed as being from the producers of Twilight (like we care).
Last but not least we've got what will no doubt be the biggest release of the week, The Wrestler. I found Darren Aronofsky's film to be an intensely realistic and intimate approach to dramatic filmmaking while quietearth found it tedious (review here). One of the things that really bugs me about the marketing of this film is that it's being touted as the triumphant return of Mickey Rourke when Aronofsky had nothing to do with Rourke's return at all. The only reason he was even on the radar is because Rodriguez brought him back in Sin City. So really, I would consider this Rourke's second critically acclaimed return. So there.
Trailers and stuff after the break.

Regarding the Hellraiser box-set, I found this on the link you've provided. Amazon editorial writes, "Product Description
Loaded with nearly 3 hours of bonus material, this 3 disc set comes in a custom made Hellraiser Puzzle Box that slides open to reveal the discs. Disc 1 Hellraiser, Disc 2 Hellbound: Hellraiser II; Disc 3 Hellraiser Blu Ray." Seems interesting.

Hmm okay thanks. I'd heard that the set just included the last anniversary editions and no additional extras but perhaps I heard wrong. Also, the inclusion of the blu-ray may be enough to entice some HD-philes.

Dante 01 looks amazing! Going to find that now.

Dante 01 IS amazing but AO is right to warn. It could be classified as "smart scifi" so don't expect too much action. It's like 2001 meets Sunshine... but French.
