We've got a whole bunch of news including stuff we didn't put up last week, so hold on to your horses.
Takashi Miike will be remaking the 1963 Eiichi Kudo film Thirteen Assassins. HanWay will be introducing the films to buyers at Cannes (they also backed Franklyn) and principal photography begins in July. The epic is set in the era of the shogun and follows thirteen assassins who undertake a suicide mission to kill an evil young Lord.. Nice, but I'd rather he do Afro Samurai next. via screendaily
A Production Weekly twitter says that Liv Tyler is in talks to star in Neuromancer which already has Hayden Christiansen reportedly starring and Joseph Kahn directing. I don't have high hopes for this and if Liv will be in the film, consider it ruined.
Some Mortis Rex concept art over at BD. This thing has been in development forever, hurry up!
Christian Bale says he might be doing a JG Ballard adaptation next, rumor is Concrete Island. I hope they do a lot more then that, and Natali, hurry up on High Rise!
Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson, the upcoming Valhalla Rising) will be directing an adaptation of the book "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" with Keanu Reeves set to star. Plot details are on lockdown. via THR
Antonio Banderas is set to star in neo-noir detective story Big Bang directed by Steve Krantz. Banderas stars as an L.A. private detective who's hired to find a missing stripper. The trail leads to the New Mexico desert, where the private eye finds a trail of bodies and contends with a brutal Russian boxer, three LAPD detectives and an aging billionaire looking to perfect the nuclear physics equivalent of the Big Bang. I love the sound of it but for the love of God, can't they find anyone beside Banderas?! Krantz directed the horror comedy Otis so I bet he can pull it off. via Variety
Another possible 28 Days Later style film backed by Barbarian? Story takes place in a quaint rural town, where the population is suddenly reduced to its most base violent and sexual urges after being exposed to a failed secret government experiment. A small group of locals are left unexposed and struggle to survive and uncover the truth behind the incident. Script is penned by Guy Busick but no director has been attached. via Variety
The post apocalyptic eco film Talking With Dog still does not have financing due to the troubling times. We reported on this (including synopsis) quite a while ago, but we just recently got an update from the producer.
