Last month we brought you a little background on Scott Charles Stewart's directorial debut, Legion, which sounded a lot like The Mist meets Constantine.

Starring Dennis Quaid, Paul Bettany, Tyrese Gibson, Kate Walsh, Kevin Durand and Lucas Black, the film tells the story of "a terrifying biblical apocalypse" which descends upon the world. A group of strangers, stranded in a remote truck stop diner in the Southwest, unwittingly become humanity's last line of defense when they discover the diner's young waitress is pregnant with the messiah.

Its sounds like an amazing project so we're happy that it's finally started filming. The good people of io9 have even managed to track down some behind the scenes pics for us to share, so check them out after the break. No actors make an appearance but I must say there's some decent car-nage. I'm also curious about the significance of the crazy tattoos seen on a yet unidentified actor. Any code breakers out there willing to shed some light?

"HI, I'm your loving God. I'm going to kill almost everybody by unleashing demons on the world in a Mist-Meets-Constantine scenario, but I impregnated a woman to bear a child in a diner, who will save the few people who survive with their sanity intact."

The Lord works in mysterious ways!

The tattoos appear to me to be modified imagery from the 'Lemegeton' or 'The Lesser Key of Solomon', an anonymously written 16th century grimoire that supposedly instructed the reader in the summoning and control of demons, also known as the art of demonology.

The tattoos are angelic script, and is only worn by 2 characters in the movie ... not that hard to figure out which 2.
Filming has been complete and wrapped for over a year and it was all shot in New Mexico.
