It's quite rare to have something family friendly posted here at QE, in fact the only other thing I can think of is City of Ember (which rocked). I'm a big fan of Shyamalan's later work like The Village and Lady in the Water (yeah I know I'm in the minority) but after The Debacle (read: The Happening) I'm a bit war of where this one could go. It starts off with a scene that's probably in countless other martial art flicks, but the ending is.. priceless. The film is based on the first season of the animated television series Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The story follows the adventures of Aang, a ten year old successor to a long line of Avatars, who must put his childhood ways aside and stop the Fire Nation from enslaving the Water, Earth and Air nations.

How's that for more fantasy AO?

I'm shocked that this actually looks not too bad.

It seems so obvious that this is M. Night's apology letter to the studio. A way to prove that he can be trusted to make a winner after two pretty bad movies in a row. I predict this will look and feel like it could have been directed by any number of people. It won't have any of Night's signature style (though many people will probably appreciate that).

In terms of it being decent fantasy? Meh. Bring on the adult intensity of Solomon Kane!

I actually enjoyed the cartoon. It dealt with surprisingly adult themes for a children's show.
