The best selling author of the "Young Bond" series, Charlie Higson, is releasing what looks to be a pretty adult sounding YA book called "The Enemy" this September 3rd, 2009. A interesting twist on the zombie apocalypse tale, it tells the story of a London overrun with only adult zombies. All the kids were spared when the plague hit, left to run amok in the streets of 'ol blighty... as long as they don't get cornered.

I don't know if it was Higson's plan to riff on "The Lord of the Flies" or not, but it seems like there is ground here for an intriguing twist on the classic story.

Synopsis:
When the sickness came, every police officer, politician – every adult – fell ill. The lucky ones died. The others are crazed, confused and lying in wait.

Only children under fourteen remain, and they’re fighting to survive. Because the adults who are alive are hungry...

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a preview copy of this and I can confirm that it is awesome. Charlie doesn't pull the punches either just because it is aimed at young teenagers - there's some really horrific stuff in it and blood and gore aplenty. If the film adaptation is anywhere as good as the book it will be a great addition to the zombie genre.

Oh. another 'only the children remain' novel. How tiresome.
