This is being called China's "first scifi film" which promises a Matrix like future which is actually just 2009, but unfortunately, none of this future is shown in the trailer below. So why am I posting it? Well, I'm hoping they have something sweet, because all this sappy love crap, whining and terrible music makes me want to hurl. The first part of the film is directed by Fruit Chan with the second part directed by Cui Jian. Chengdu will be the closing film at the Venice Film Festival.
A "dual love story between past and future", the picture is a satirical comedy set during the 1976 earthquake of Tangshan, which then zips forward to 2009 offering a Matrix-like science fiction story of contemporary China.
