quietearth [Celluloid 08.04.09] post apocalyptic movie trailer news action western

Women are scarce and there's car chases and fighting in the desert. Sound familiar? That's because it's a Mad Max-esque take on a fear we all have, the oil disappearing. Yes, it's an updated take on the PA old school with a bit of the Western genre and possibly a weird mind-trip.

Wes Keller is a young man living in a world where oil has collapsed, the food supply has been wiped out, and cancer rates for women have skyrocketed, depleting the female population. In a barbaric environment where bio fuel, batteries, bullets and people are currency and marauders roam free, Wes tries to escape to a mythical world run on cold fusion "Plutopia", a place that may only exist in the mind. THE BILL IS DUE. 'Downstream' is a view of the not so distant future. We follow a young man (everyone's son) as he pays the price for society's decadence.

Trailer after the break. Another great find brought to you by the Avery Mining Corp.

Wow, totally decent trailer. Very stylish.

Love the inclusion of the inclusion of The Clash's "Guns of Brixton." One of my favorites actually.

Not a bad trailer at all. Mad Max 2 (Road Warrior) seems to be the approach, but the movie reminds me of Mad Max. Totally agree on the Clash inclusion. Something tells me they haven't paid for that use though.

Apparently, the imminent collapse of the current social order will exponentially increase the demand for leather goods. It seems that in the post-apocalyptic neo-tribal future, regular clothing just won't cut it any more. Better stock up on leather jackets and S/M gear while they are still available.

Also, if the oil reserves are gone, why the hell does everyone insist on driving the most fuel-inneficient cars? A sports car chasing an SUV? Really? maybe throw a Hummer in there for a good measure.

Writer/Producer Phil Kim also owns Famous Monsters of Filmland. Nice combo : ) and good choice to head up Famous Monsters after Forry's death.

Sweet looking trailer. I guess I can deal with the fact that's the story's been done...BETTER...but still, that's one kickin' trailer.
