Of all the creative ways to exploit the zombie genre, I Spit on Your Rave has got be up there with the best of them. Not that it'll appeal to everyone mind you, in fact I imagine it'll annoy many of you and appeal only to those of you who frequent zombie walks or are just lovers of all things undead, but as a community gathering you have to admit that this thing is pretty impressive.

Billed as "the world's biggest mass participation zombie movie event," the makers of I Spit on Your Rave made a music festival mockumentary around the gathering's success.

Synopsis:
It's 2018 - six years after a virus was released at the 2012 Olympics. Zombies dominate the earth and humankind has been mauled, torn and eaten to extinction.

The problem is there's not a lot to do now that there are no humans left to rip apart... cue the first post-apocalyptic music festival curated by the undead.

Film4 and Warp Films bring you I Spit On Your Rave, a mockumentary by director Chris Boyle about the first post-apocalypse zombie music festival.

Heh, great idea, however, looks incredibly boring. I just don't agree that if you give a monkey a camera, paint people up poorly as zombies, and then edit and add music, it's fantastic just because the subject matter is the Undead. I just expect more. This tends to muddy the waters.

Great idea and it looks like fun. Too bad about the shoddy zombie make-up though.

I have a feeling they just asked everyone to put on their own makeup. At least that's what it looks like. Perhaps they had some bulk grey, black and white they purchased there for people to use. No way did they hire makeup artists however.

Yeah I remember reading about the event before and I think they had free make-up stations but that they wanted people to do the make-up themselves. They should probably have paid that little extra and done the make-up for everyone. But I guess they wanted quantity over quality.

I was at the Big Chill where this was filmed and I’m ashamed to have been one of the “zombies” in the crowd. I’m a long time fan of the concept of zombies but I’m not a mindless zombie fan…uh…of zombies. I’ve seen some awful zombie fiction in fact most of it is rubbish. I don’t doubt that this is not intended to be serious zombie fiction but it doesn’t even work as a self deprecating homage of zom-spolatiation. It literally looks awful. Like I said when they were filming it “I almost might see this for free if the opportunity arises and I actually couldn’t find anything else to do…maybe”. Also not particularly a “Mighty Boosh” fan but Noel Fielding was especially atrocious. If you’re actually interested in zombies as an idea or what they as a story device can tell us or even just things that are good then check out “Walking Dead” and “World War Z”.

Also as you asked about makeup basically they asked everyone to do it themselves but had people doing it as well in the hopes of getting as many free extras as possible. I went to one of the “zombification stations” as they called them in the hope that they might be doing good zombie makeup. It was white face paint with some black around the eyes and a squirt of fake blood. The concept of the movie is basically the running man but a thousand times cheaper and with all the good bits replaced with poorly thought out overly silly (Mighty Boosh style) schlock. By far the funniest thing was the guys trying to direct the crowd that even didn’t care or didn’t know what zombies should do and thought the whole thing was a crap as I did. I did quite fancy a few of the zombie cheerleaders though.
