In July, we reported on A.D. Calvo's plans for a Lynchian Snow White adaptation which got quite a bit of press after we broke the news. Part of what Calvo describes as a trilogy of films "featuring a strong female lead character suffering from mental illness", Snow White has been shelved (but is tentatively set to shoot after this one) in favor of another part of the trilogy called The Melancholy Fantastic. Funding has been locked and shooting will begin in November. I've traded emails with Calvo on what he's doing, and with his concept work, I'm pretty excited to see how this turns out.

Against the objections of a life-size paper doll, a delusional young woman falls for a Goth in this unconventional holiday story. The Melancholy Fantastic weaves elements of classical existentialism into a disturbing psychological holiday thriller.
