anglebender [Celluloid 09.01.09] post apocalyptic news video game

Post-Apocalyptic survival without nukes or zombies being involved seems like a tough stretch, but game publisher Ubisoft seems fairly confident it can pull it off. Chicago has just been hit by a 10.8 earthquake and Adam (the player) searches for his ex-girlfriend because he's still in love with her. Does Adam have separation issues or is he just co-dependent? Can he resolve his interpersonal crisis while surviving in a post-megadisaster Chicago?

Principle gameplay revolves around the player surviving in an environment filled with other survivors and trying to “get along” with them. Negotiation will be a major game factor- Some survivors will be your best pal, some will try to kill you for your food. I anticipate street gangs of stock brokers killing each other for spoiled sandwiches. There will be quite a few instances where the player will have to make ethical decisions that impact gameplay, nothing new there but saving that Twinkie for yourself instead of giving it to someone who might save you later could have lasting implications. As far as I know, there won't be a progress bar for “stoic apathy”, but they still have a few months before release.

From what I gather, this will be a first-person shooter with a tinge of RPG, but no one really knows because there hasn't been any images of gameplay released yet. Unfortunately there won't be any multiplayer or online functionality, so you'll have to go it alone against the ravenous bandits and soccer moms. Ubisoft has been fairly tight-lipped since it pulled “I Am Alive” from its developer Darkworks last June to finish it in-house. Since it had already been worked on for 4 years, polish should be all Ubisoft needs to worry about. Apparently it will ship around March or April of 2010 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, but specifics about the release dates have been sketchy. English-subtitled Trailer in English (?) after the break.

I'm just excited it's a game set in Chicago. I wonder if I'll be able to find all of my old apartments?

Wow, if the water/glass floor scene is a game play option then this baby could have countless options! Looks fantastic!
