Seemingly a trip into the past of a mental patient recovering from the Chechen war, Я is called a "portrait of a generation". Filled with drugs and clothing from the cover of the Beatles Sgt. Peppers album, I'm getting the distinct feeling this is supposed to be the Russian Vietnam.

Film about the current generation of thirty years. They now just over thirty. They learned from Soviet textbooks, but left school after the fall of the communist system. The hero mowing down from the army in a mental hospital in the early nineties, faced with the brutal truth of life in the Chechen war. There he is experiencing clinical death and in this condition begins to recall his life lived, and try to re-think. This - is already past. This - a portrait of generation.

Trailer after the break.
