While this looks fantastic, so did this other Japanese film where everyone was commiting suicide (I can't think of the name) which was so boring that I had to turn it off. Directed by Takuya Fukushima, Our Brief Eternity will be premiering at the Tokyo International Film Festival. File this one under arthouse.

In Tokyo, a new type of virus called Emanon becomes prevalent. Once people are infected by the virus, they lose memory of the most important people in their lives. Teru, a guy who spends his life lazily, meets his ex-girlfriend Mio. Infected by the virus, Mio does not recall him. The world plunges into confusion due to this virus, and becomes worse as it turns into a global pandemic. Meantime, Teru and Mio restart their relationship. He also gets infected by the virus and loses his memory of Mio. Tokyo falls into turmoil and shatters... Teru and Mio end up in the countryside where they've visited before.

Trailer after the break.

this sounds like a post-apocalyptic version of eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.
