We've reported on Gabriel Cowan's gooey, Slither inspired new horror film, Growth, before, but now that the director himself has just passed along the film's first official trailer we thought we'd share it with you guys. After watching it the film definitely feels like a winner. It's Full of some simply stunning special FX work that easily competes with larger productions.
Gabe also told us a bit about what he and his team put into the film to make sure it was an amazing visual experience. Shot on the RED ONE, it has over a hundred VFX shots, aerial shots, and underwater sequences. They even did some crazy stuff like shooting a sequence in Korea remotely from Los Angeles. According to Gabe, "we had a high definition feed to our computer, and our laptop had Skype and Google video working for us to communicate with the crew, director of photography and the actors. It was an incredible, and I think potentially groundbreaking experience!" It's this kind of passion that makes me interested in Growth.
Synopsis:
In 1989, a breakthrough in advanced parasitic research on Cuttyhunk Island, gave scientists a jump in human evolution. Initial tests proved promising as subjects were experiencing heightened physical and mental strength and awareness. But, something in the experiment went horribly wrong and the island mysteriously lost three quarters of its population....
Jamie Akerman fled the outbreak, which took her mothers life, twenty years ago. She now returns with her boyfriend and step brother, to sell the family property. There, they uncover the key to Jamie's disturbing past, and have to fight a new strain of parasite that has emerged, to threaten the island once again.
Growth stars Brian Krause, Mircea Monroe, and Richard Riehle.

Trailer gives away far too much.
And I liked it better when it was called The Faculty (1998).

i agree with #1. towards the end of the trailer, you really see 50% of the movie in FF. its ridic.

Yeah, I agree with no.1 too. Wondering if some of you guys are being sarcastic about the FX, because they look pretty dodgy to me :)

Is that the guy from Office Space? Hot chicks, creepy worm creatures and anyone from Office Space... one word, AWESOME!!!
Anonymous (2 years ago) Reply
Yeah, who knows how much of the film we're seeing? I'm totally excited to see it - that's the guy from Charmed right? I liked the trailer ... A LOT. I'm down.

I'll probably wait for the rental because by then I will have forgotten all they just gave away in the trailer. Besides, didn't they pretty much cover this material in "Slither"?
Anonymous (2 years ago) Reply
Slither is a fine film, but this is a different type of story/movie.

Great!!! I'm looking forward to this one. I don't feel any of the comparisons anybody has made so far, it definitely seems to carry it's self well. Most FXs were great as well.

It looks like a great mix of Slither and Cabin Fever... plus I love that guy from Office Space. And the last scene of the trailer is sick!
