Christopher Webster [Celluloid 11.26.09] United Kingdom movie trailer news horror thriller

Man, it's been forever since we brought you the first stills for Stuart Hazeldine's claustrophobic debut thriller, Exam, and now, just as I was about to pack it up for the day, I get an email from Marina telling me that Empire's just posted the first trailer. Nice one.

Synopsis:
Eight talented candidates have reached the final stage of selection to join the ranks of a mysterious and powerful corporation. Entering a windowless room, an Invigilator gives them eighty minutes to answer one simple question. He outlines three rules they must obey or be disqualified: don't talk to him or the armed guard by the door, don't spoil their papers and don't leave the room. He starts the clock and leaves.

The candidates turn over their question papers, only to find they're completely blank...

So how's the trailer? It's great. It's no secret that I love how the Saw formula of people being trapped in a room together has been taken on by some smart writers and Exam looks to be on the cutting edge of this. It's a tight, well shot and acted film in the vein of Cube and The Killing Room.

Trailer after the break.

We had Stuart at the festival back in April. Finally saw the movie at Raindance. It is cool, well made and has some great moments. But a little like the Cube it seems over the top for the aim of the 'masters' Worht watching

So basically they go insane, and whoever is still alive and has an un-spoiled paper at the end of 80 minutes gets the job. I love when trailers give away the ending.

Oh Dear. It has Colin Salmon in it. And it played at Raindance. You know it's gonna be shit.
