As a child of the 80s I loved Steven Lisberger's Tron. It was one of those films that you never had to defend to your friends because it just seemed universally cool when it came out. It usually played in the background of many a birthday bash, though it usually took a back-seat to Empire Strikes Back if I remember correctly.

The strange thing is, unlike with most films from my childhood that get remade, the idea of a new Tron doesn't fill me with dread at all and I think it's because the concept feels more apropos today than ever. It's also why you can expect me to cover the film here on Quiet Earth.

Synopsis:
Inside the ENCOM computer system, a program called CLU, created by Kevin Flynn during the original fight against the Master Control Program, has been causing chaos and destruction across the grid. Sean Flynn, son of former ENCOM CEO Kevin Flynn, is in search of his missing father, but Sean discovers that his father's whereabouts are somehow connected to the program making a mess of the ENCOM system. In order to find his father, Sean has to go into the ENCOM system, and fight his way to CLU, but in the neon world of TRON, a lot has changed and new dangers await him at every turn.

The first poster and still from Joseph Kosinski's sequel has been revealed via HeyUGuys. I actually like the still a lot. There's a nice, dark feel to the set letting the costumes work.

Check them both out after the break.

Against my better judgement - only because sequels are rarely good, I can't help but be excited to see this. That poster is wicked.

Exclamation!!! I can't wait for this! Tron is one of my favorite childhood movies, and that proof-of-concept trailer that Kosinski made is amazing.

Agreed, after the teaser footage, i'm looking forward to this (unlike the Black Hole redux). Even Daft Punk's music seems to be on point.
