Alright, so maybe that headline is a little too ecstatic, but in terms of foreign post-apocalyptic projects that were announced earlier this year, Bigas Luna's adaptation of Manuel de Pedrolo's insanely popular Catalan alien apocalypse novel, "Second Origin" ("Mecanoscrit del Segon Origen") was one we were all desperately hoping would get the greenlight fast.

Well, good news y'all! We've confirmed that filming is currently underway in Spain and we've even got the first set pictures to prove it. We've even tracked down a concept video that showcasing how real environments will be manipulated to become the invasion ravaged landscape.

Synopsis:
A white girl Alba (14) and a black boy Didac (9), are the only survivors on the Earth after they accidentally survive an alien holocaust that eradicates all life on the planet.

As Alba and Dídac bravely recover from the catastrophe, they not only insist on living in a post-apocalyptic world, inhabited by myriads of corpses and deranged, psychotic survivors, but they also take up the mission of preserving human culture and repopulating the Earth. They must start a new world. A "Second Origin." There are only two survivors. Now, our future depends on them.

We also know that a teaser trailer for the film was shown at Cannes and that it was filmed shown in stereoscopy/3D. We did not, until now, know that this would be a 3D film. Very interesting news to say the least.

Video and set photos after the break.
