movie trailer news scifi action Still a year out, the first tv spot has dropped for this long awaited manga adaptation and I have to say it looks pretty rad.
This is supposed to be the plot:
Set in 2220, the pic will depict the evacuation of 300 million people from Earth to avoid certain death from an expanding black hole. The Yamato, a space battleship, is leading the rescue fleet when it is attacked by an alien force.

check out that starcraft looking captain. A battleship called "Yamato". Is this Korean they love starcraft?

I know that opening music....

Matt, it's Japanese. You do know that Space Battleship Yamato (with bearded captain and the battleship Yamato) predates Starcraft by some two decades, right?

awesome trailer to start the new year.

Thanks! I was absolutely clueless that they were making a live-action version!

Really, Matt?

It looks so great! I hope to Christ a Macross live-action film could be done.

I think the plot synopsis written above is actually for the new animated film, not the live-action one.

Wow...there coming out with both Live action version and last month 12/12/09 they came out with the CGI (Cartoon) movie of the show.
Thats amazing.....

I just fell in love with this! Looks like it was made in the 60s. Great models and costumes. The world needs more international space opera.
AtomicPlayboy (3 years ago) Reply
@Matt: the StarCraft captain character is an homage to Captain Henry Gloval from the Macross (Robotech) cartoon, which is somewhat similar to Space Battleship Yamato (Star Blazers).
@Gerwalk78: A Macross live action movie is being done. Tobey McGuire's production company bought the rights to make a live-action Robotech movie, which IMDB has listed as being in pre-production with a planned 2012 release.

I hope the storyline is better than the original "Star Blazers." Am rewatching that now and it is just awful
