The last time we saw Paul Gross he was behind the camera directing mayhem in the trenches of the WWI battle of Passchendaele. Now, in Gunless, an upcoming Canadian riff on the Western, he plays a gunman who is perplexed by the fact that no one in seems to understand or appreciate the brutal code of the American Wild West anymore.

Honestly, like most Canadian comedies, Gunless could be interesting and it could be daft, but it's got a great supporting cast in Callum Keith Rennie, Sienna Guillory, Dustin Milligan and Tyler Mane and the director, William Phillips, second unit directed on Vincenzo Natali's Cypher, so I'm willing to give it a chance.

Synopsis:
When notorious American gunslinger, The Montana Kid, staggers into the tiny Canadian hamlet of Barclay’s Brush, life for the town’s 17 inhabitants is about to get exciting. The Kid immediately gets into an unfortunate altercation with Jack, the town’s surly blacksmith, which leads to the The Kid ‘calling him out’ for some good old frontier justice – a showdown. But in a place totally ill prepared to deal with a classic gun fight and without a single working pistol to be found, adhering to the code of the American Wild West may prove difficult.

Not able to let go of the ‘code’, The Kid remains stuck in Barclay’s Brush, getting drawn into a strange world of eccentric rituals and characters; among them Jane, a smart sassy woman who becomes his only hope of finding a way out… or perhaps his only reason for staying…

Gunless is in post-production and is hitting select theaters later in 2010.

Check out the film's teaser (which I'm expecting contains no actual footage) after the break.

Nearly forgot about Rennie in this as well. Good catch C! This guy pops up everywhere - he should really be a bigger star.

Paul has been on TV, playing Darryl Van Horn in the recently canceled show Eastwick.

Marina - looks like your wish is coming true! CKR has the lead role in a new police drama called Shattered and it promises to be a great show! Fab supporting cast too.

Eh, not a big fan of Eastwick but nice find on Shattered C. That's awesome!

They should have gotten somebody else to play the title role like Nathan Fillon.

Oh man. That would have been awesome. Captain Reynolds would have filled the role nicely.
