Secrets can lead to bad things and in the case of this mother and son duo, they certainly don't lead to anything good.

Watching the trailer for Håkon Liu's feature film debut Miss Kicki, I was somewhat reminded of another film about people “lost” in a big city (looking at you Lost in Translation) but something about his, perhaps the story itself, speaks more to me more than Sofia Coppola's film ever did. It's the story of Kicki, an estranged mother, and Viktor, her son, who travel together to China in an attempt to rekindle their relationship. What Viktor doesn't realize, at least at first, is the Kicki's real reason for going to China is to meet her online boyfriend, a man who has no idea she's come to town to, essentially, meet him in “real life”.

Aside from the gorgeous look of the film, there's something special about this trailer. Perhaps its the sort of forced interaction between mother and son or the somewhat creepy stalking that Kicki does in search of her on-line boyfriend. It may even be something to do with the pull to see what happens when Kicki eventually meets her boyfriend and the awkwardness that, I'm sure, will come when two individuals who only know each other from afar finally meet. All I know for sure is that I'm really looking forward to seeing this.

Trailer after the break.

Films like this have no place on a PA site. Sorry, just had to say it. Getting a little off subject here. Artsy fartsy

I disagree - I love that fact that QE covers not only the post-apocalyptic genre, but the "artsy fartsy" stuff, too.

And Miss Kicki looks to be an awesome film.

just to clarify, taiwan is not china even though it is also known as "republic of china". this is because of a long and complicated history... it is neither a part of china nor is it completely separate; in any case, to refer to taiwan as "china" is a very ignorant mistake.
