quietearth [Celluloid 03.24.10] movie trailer news scifi drama fantasy



From what I understand the English title is The Astral City and seems to incorporates visions of hell and a futuristic society, all based on the astral plane only reachable after death. We just got the heads up on this and I don't know where this came from, but 20th Century Fox is backing it and it looks bloody incredible. You can find more details and a much lengthier synopsis (in English) on the official website. The film is directed by Wagner de Assis and based on the works of Xico Xavier.

Nosso Lar will be released September 3rd in Brazil.

The Astral City is the name of the spirit colony that Andre Luiz describes in this first book of his collection. In this vibrant narrative, the author offers us his observations and discoveries regarding life in the spirit world, acting as a sort of reporter who records his own experiences. It reveals a pulsating world full of life and activity organized in exemplary fashion, and where discarnate spirits go through steps of recovery and spiritual education supervised by high order spirits. Nosso Lar enables us to see beforehand the spirit world that awaits us when we abandon the corporeal body through physical death.

Man it started out so good! Dude dies, there's that amazing looking scene with him roaming that dark area with what LOOKED to be the damned. Great stuff. Then for ME, it dropped after that. I'm not a fan of dramas at all, and all that airy, family stuff drives me nuts. However, I recognize it looks like a great movie, just not something for ME. It is beautiful to look at, for sure. And the acting looks like it could pretty good as well

The book was originally written in 1944, so to call this movie a substandard version of What Dreams May Come really makes no sense, besides the fact that both movies deal with life after death.
I have read the original and I can tell that this really promises quite a story.

Hi guys. This novel is the best seller of its genre in Brazil and has been translated to lots os languages. the story takes place in 1939, right before the second world war (at least in the book). It is not about good or bads, but action and reaction over death, like we take to the other life what we've achieved here - or not. Sounds interesting.

Well, the single most amazing thing about the movie and this book is that is NOT fictional.

No matter what some of us label "bull***", we'll find that to be true by ourself, sooner or later ;-)

If anyone feels like knowing more about that beforehand (and be prepared), just searh the net for "The Spirts' Book" by Allan Kardec, "Introduction to the Spiritist Philosophy" by the same author (as a "soft start" on this subject) or for the more than 400 books channeled by Chico Xavier...

Hi guys, I'm brazilian and i was looking for some informations on the web about Nosso Lar and found out your comments. This book is just one of many about Spiritism in Brazil. I guess you probably have never heard about the spiritism cause it arose in France about 1845 but is better Known in Brazil. Anyway, is a religion and philosophy that studies and explains thru scientific researches that exist life after death and , at the same time, the spiritual world coexists with the material world. This movie is not a piece of fiction art, actually, is a narrative of someone that died in our material world and suddenly discovered that life is eternal. Did you guys remember that movie Ghost with Patrick Swayze??

Nosso Lar was a landmark in spiritualist/spiritist literature because it was the first book to describe in detail what goes on on the other side of life, with no mysticism of any kind. Even spiritists at the time were skeptical, but not anymore. Everyone can see in this story that there is no "heaven" or "hell", but only what we make of life ourselves, and the consequences. People work, have fun, study and rest too, on the other side. The sooner we find out about that, and most importantly, that no one has the authority to "absolve" us from any "sins", the sooner we will be able to pass on to the other side and live in a place like Nosso Lar... because there are places like this all over the world, of course... I can't wait to see this movie.

I'm a follower of the spiritism (since both my parents are Spiritualists) and I truly believe in everything that comes from Chico Xavier (Nosso Lar psychographer)... he was the greatest man who ever lived in Brazil! Spiritism isn't something that you hear about in the US at all (I live here for 4 years now) and I'm trying to get my husband into it. Is hard to teach someone a life time of experience in mere words... I can say that I KNOW that every thing about the book Nosso Lar is true, but I came to this conclusion on my own life experience... Hopefully this movie will touch many souls and change peoples lives forever! P.S.: You MUST have an opened mind to accept the book/movie message! If not, see you in the next life anyways brother! :)

By the way, for those who are interested in learning more about the afterlife, I stick to Fernando's recommendation above: start with ""The Spirts' Book" by Allan Kardec and "Introduction to the Spiritist Philosophy" by the same author". About Chico Xavier, he dedicated his life to help those who lost their beloved and people in need (being himself consider a poor person materialy)! All the money collected from the books he psycographed was spent on charity! He never kept any for himself, his psycographies had information that only the family members or friends of the dead knew about and even the deads signatures in the psycography matched the one when they were alive! There was no way (and I mean it!) he could know all of that since THOUSANDs of people came to him daily! Would be very interesting to y'all to learn more about him too!

Another book to read and understand what is being presented in the movie is the "Gospel explained by the Spiritist Doctrine" which is also a must read. I read it years ago and am reading it again now. QUite a coincidence as I began reading it before I knew about the movie. Speaking of which I hope it makes to the US. Does anyone know if it will be shown here?

Well, I just want to tell you guys that here in Brazil, in the first 2 weeks, 3 million saw this movie. Fox of Brazil gave the numbers. By the way, "Nosso Lar" is the first brazilian movie that Fox backed so far. And it is fair because Chico Xavier is the most honest person I've seen and my life. And he is a garantee that there is life after death. "Nosso lar" is more than a movie. It's an overview of our future.

Wow! This is one of the best films I have ever seen. The story is really nice and the visual effects are stunning. And the book in English greatly enhanced my understanding of the film.The film is so good that I want to share it with my dear spiritual friends in Spirit Quest (www.spirit-quest.org).
