I love Carl Bessai. The Canadian film maker is a bit of a superstar on the West Coast, making enough films in a year to rival Bruce McDonald and as Bruce sort of hit his stride with the release of Pontypool (review) (all of a sudden everyone and their mother knows about Bruce), I think Bessai is on the brink of a similar explosion, especially if Repeaters is as good as it looks and sounds and considering that Bessai is only getting better with each new film, I’d say the time to jump on the Bessai love bandwagon is now.

Written by Arne Olsen, Repeaters stars new Bessai regular Richard de Klerk (he appeared in last year’s Cole and also stars in Bessai’s upcoming Fathers&Sons), Dustin Milligan and Amanda Crew as three drug addicts who start experiencing a strange phenomenon while in rehab and no, it’s not simply a symptom of withdrawal. Here’s the longwinded synopsis:

REPEATERS is a fast paced thriller that follows the lives of three young outsiders whose days inexplicably repeat as they struggle to battle personal demons and addictions. While each have some degree of volition and are able to use this day to play out fantasies seemingly with no long term consequences, none has power to change the truth that tomorrow will be the same as yesterday. Ultimately, all are forced to make choices that will affect not only their lives but the lives of everyone around them.

The film also stars Hrothgar Mathews, Benjamin Ratner and the fabulous Gabrielle Rose.

If that’s not good enough, we’ve also got a nice gallery of first images from the film and they suggest more of Bessai’s gorgeous cinematography. Repeaters isn’t scheduled for release until 2011 but it’s already my most anticipated film of that year. Here’s hoping we’ll get a video sneak peek before this year is out and if we’re really lucky, maybe a premiere at one of the festivals late in the year.

Why is Richard on the poster? He's not the main focus of the movie, is he? Could be because daddy financed the film?

Don't know where this stupid comment originates. There is no poster. The film is just going into post production. Sounds like a pee-on comment

Wow! Jealous much? It's always so annoying to read comments like the one posted on April 25th. Really, grow up.
On another note.... Its pretty cool that there is excitement about another Bessai film. He is exceptionally creative. Looking forward to it!

The way I twiddle my thumbs is exceptionally creative. Carl Bessai is JUST ok. Not bad. Mediocre. Decent. I wish him the best though. Hopefully I can stay awake for this film. I'll be watching it at Toronto Film Fest.
