Garth Ennis' apocalyptic horror comic book series "Crossed," is getting the Kick Ass treatment according to Variety. By "the Kick Ass" treatment, they mean that it will be independently financed and produced before being shopped to distributors like Mathew Vaughn did.
Synopsis:
Crossed follows survivors dealing with a zombie-like plague that causes it victims to carry out their most evil thoughts and wishes, including murder, rape, mutilation, arson, etc. Carriers of the virus are known as the Crossed since a cross-like rash appears on their faces. This contagion is primarily spread through bite wounds and rape, assuming that the victim doesn't die first, but can be spread by any bodily fluid, which the Crossed have used to great effect by treating their weapons with their fluids. It does not appear to affect animals in any way.
The main story takes place ten months after the first outbreaks, with flashbacks to those events. It is narrated in the past tense.
Personally I've never read the comic, but after doing some research it seems pretty interesting. Anyone out there a fan?

Yeah; i just loved this sick twisted fun comic! Ennis has already written great p.a. stories (Bloody Mary; Just a Pilgrim; Judge Dredd - check them out) but this takes stuff to a new level. it has an obvious although solid story about a group of survivors but it also has some of the most shocking imagery you'll ever see. To tell the truth i'm kind of surprised they allowed this to become a movie. i fear they are not gonna film some of the most gruesome parts and that's a shame; we'll see. i heard this comic was banned in germany; any truth to it? if you love p.a. and horror and some sick humor read the comic. then we'll see how the movie develops but i'm really happy about the news.

I love Garth Ennis..I really do..Preacher is the best non superhero comic series I've ever read..or even his run with The Punisher Max series..but if we get to see guys beatin up eachother with castrated animal penises..ill be truly shocked..and somehow...happy...Bring on an adaptation of The Boys..get simon pegg..we need a good anti superhero movie already

Crossed is good, and not a disappointment for this die hard fan of Garth Ennis - but Crossed is brutally graphic in it's depiction of violence. Not for the faint of heart.

Will have to read this immediately.

Crossed is so violent and disturbing, it will get dramatically watered down.

I know these two are somewhat different and address differing topics, but The Walking Dead is such a better comic than Crossed. After reading this article yesterday and downloading issues 0-9, I must say that I got extremely bored with the dialogue and wanted more action. That says a lot about how weak the story, characters, and focus are. After issue 4 or 5, I just kept pressing space bar to flip more quickly to the end of each issue. The Walking Dead, however, thrives with its story and character studies. I understand it has the advantage of being a more fleshed out story since it's currently up to like issue 70, but Right from the beginning, The Walking Dead was intriguing and exciting without gunshots. I'm really excited that AMC picked up The Walking Dead as a television series cause a movie wouldn't do it justice.
Simply put, the Crossed is a waste of time, and if it hits the theater, it'll be too watered down and too similar to recently released remake of The Crazies.

I dunno about this. Crossed was disturbing for the sake of just trying to be as messed up as possible. This just won't translate to screen because they just can't show that kind of content on the screen.

Matt S., i've read every issue of the walking dead till now and yes it's a great comic but it not fair to compare it with crossed. TWD gets it strength from character development facing the dangers of zombies. but it doesn't really explore anything we haven't seen before. crossed on the other hand doesn't work the plot as much as it does it's shock value. on the long run i'd say TWD is a better comic but it doesn't top crossed's originality and boldness in being so twisted.

@omnia
How is The Crossing original?! It's just simple gore porn that we're all used to in such films as the Hostel. I'm not sure what other comics are out there also have gore porn, but I'm pretty sure they exist, just not as popular. And TWD does present new situations that other zombie mediums have done little to address, such as how to survive long-term and how to deal with the real enemy, not zombies, but other humans who steal, rape, and kill. Dude, if you've read TWD, then you know that The Governor is every bit as sadistic and perverted as every single Crossed infected. Hence, The Crossed is nothing new. Yes, the Crossed is bold...but it's boringly bold, as in expected and not surprising.

*spoilers* if you haven't read crossed stop right here.
Matt S. tell me how many times have you seen guys jerking off on to bullets to contaminate others? how many times have you seen a nuclear family being so violently sodimized and a little girl being ripped open like a pack of peanuts? or a bad guy with the penis of a horse in his hand to symbolize his leadership? Kick-Ass reminds me of this because although everyone has thought of the concept of Miller's comic, no one has ever put it into comics in such a way. but hey, it's an opinion.
